The Heart of Marriage and a FREE book!

Every couple needs to spend quality time together. We refer to this as emotional connection, deep bonding, or just staying connected. We all know we need to do it, but few of us are intentional enough to pull it off. Tami and I recently read The Heart of Marriage. This is a collection of stories from dozens of authors which is one of our favorite types of books to read together. These anecdotes are enjoyable to read and filled with nuggets of relational goodness. Mother's Day for Your Wife (who is NOT your mother)

I am writing this article for several reasons. First, to all my married brethren as a reminder to do something kind and thoughtful for the mother of your children on Mother's Day. This year, by the way, Mother's Day falls on Sunday, May 8th. Write yourself a reminder now and check this first point off of your list. This is pretty easy so far, right (Ladies, if you come across this article, would you kindly place it or post it where some men who are in need of it's message will find it?) Second, there seems to be a thought among some men that this is one holiday we can take a breather from. After all, your wife (who does most of the gift shopping and giving) has YOUR mom covered on your behalf. This lets you off the hook, right…

Your Words Have More Power Than you Think

Did you know that each one of us possesses within us the ability to help others achieve their wildest dreams and ambitions? Our words can accomplish this. And did you know that we also possess the ability to tear down others, one piece at a time, until they no longer believe in themselves and until they are convinced that they are utterly worthless? Furthermore, once a person no longer believes in themselves, it is rare that you will find anyone else who believes in them either. Our words can do this much damage, and I'm quite ashamed to say that it happens much too often…

Adjusting to Marriage and Family Can be Tough, and That Can be Good

I recently had a conversation with a good friend who had been married for about 5 years. He confessed to me that he had been in a bit of a funk and struggling lately. He looked very stressed, so I asked him to try to clarify what was going on and why.He said, "I just feel like I'm losing myself, like I don't know who I am anymore." Then he went on to explain that he thought going on a good "man vacation" might clear his head. A trip to the mountains, by himself, where he could take a deep breath. If he could only reconnect with himself–without kids screaming and bosses demanding, and endless responsibilities to his wife…
